5 Can’t-Miss Holiday Parties for Health IT Professionals in Nashville

The Health IT Professional’s Guide to the 2018 Holiday Season in Nashville

Nashville is known for many things: healthcare, technology, country music … the list continues on and on. Something that professionals who reside in Nashville also know is there are countless networking opportunities. There is not a trace of doubt that if you wanted to attend 3-5 networking events every week for the rest of the year, you would have no problem finding events to do so. Networking is great for meeting other professionals with similar goals as you, creating opportunities, and sharing ideas. With the variety of events in Nashville, we’re lucky to have the ability to be selective about where we network, especially around the holiday season. We’ve narrowed down the endless list to five holiday parties you should consider if you’re a health IT professional in the area.

NTC

NTC stands for Nashville Technology Council, and this organization is known for bringing together a huge variety of technology professionals in the Nashville area. Their mission is to be a catalyst for the growth and influence of Middle Tennesee’s technology industry, through connections and collaboration, and they succeed. Their unique and roomy space at Tech Hill Commons often is the location for some of the best tech networking events in Nashville. The NTC has been around since 1999, so it only makes sense that they party like it’s 1999. Their 2018 holiday party is at the aforementioned location, Tech Hill Commons on December 6th from 5:30 – 8 p.m. It’s bound to be an event full of technology experts, from CTOs to Business Analysts to Junior Developers. The event is $30 for NTC members and $45 for non-members, and include an open bar and heavy hors d’oeuvres. If it’s anything like previous years, you can expect a few surprise giveaways as well.

Nashville Healthcare Council

With a name like Healthcare Council in one of the top technology hubs in the country, the expectations for this organization are always very high. Luckily, those expectations are met and exceeded again and again. The Nashville Healthcare Council is a premier association of healthcare industry leaders who collaborate to improve healthcare and inspire change in a time where the industry absolutely needs it. Between their educational panels and community events, the organization is inclusive of all healthcare professionals in the Nashville area, which makes for some fantastic events. One of their most notable events over the years has been the Council Board-hosted Holiday Reception, where the 300 companies that are members of the Nashville Council gather for a year-end celebration. This year, their venue is The Bedford, a spot in south Nashville which hosts everything from weddings to New Year’s Eve parties. The event is free for members and takes place on December 4th from 5-7 p.m.

WITT

WITT, Women in Technology of Tennessee, was founded in 1999 by a small group of female tech leaders. Since, it has grown to hundreds of members, creating a community where women in this male-heavy industry can share their experiences, support and guide each other, and create opportunities for young women who are interested in breaking into the industry. They recently held one of their most popular events, the WITT Leadership Panel, where they gathered five powerful women tech leaders in the Nashville area to share their journey into IT leadership. While this event is their most popular, their holiday party is a close second. This year, the WITT holiday party will take place at CGI’s Franklin office on (tentatively) December 11th from 4:30 – 7 p.m. This event is very Nashville-esque in that you can always expect live music while you network. The event is $20 for WITT and/or NTC members, and $30 for those who aren’t members of these organizations. You can expect hors d’oeurves and drinks in addition to the live music, and a wide variety of door prizes!

Light up a Life

Light up a Life is an annual fundraising campaign that supports The Arc Tennessee and the Technology Access Center (TAC). The main goal of Light up a Life is to enable funding for an important and underserved cause: Tennessee’s disability community. The Arc and TAC work for this cause year-round, both organizations providing opportunities for Tennessee residents that suffer from a physical, emotional, and mental disabilities.

The main event that supports this cause is the Light up a Life holiday-happy hour that takes place in a favorite neighborhood among Nashvillians: the Gulch. This holiday happy hour takes place in the Industrious office in the Gulch Crossing Building on November 29th from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $30, and all profits go to this amazing cause. This event will have food, drinks, live entertainment, and a silent auction that is open for participation. In addition to contributing to a great cause, it’s sure to be a great time! Can’t make it to the party, but still want to donate? See how here.

TN HIMSS

We’ve talked about healthcare-focused options, and we’ve talked about technology-focused options, so let’s end with a combination of the two. HIMSS is known for being a thought leader that supports the transformation and innovation of health through information and technology. Tennessee HIMSS has over 2,000 members, making it one of the largest chapters in the nation. HIMSS and it’s many chapters are usually known for their large conferences, but Tennessee HIMSS also puts on a great holiday party. This year, the event is at Maggiano’s Little Italy so, in addition to great company and networking opportunities, you know the food will be top-notch. It will take place on Tuesday, December 18th from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. and is $25 for members and non-members alike.

Now, unless you’re a networking superstar, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to hit all five events this year. Our advice: attend the events that work best for your schedule, and bookmark the ones you were unable to make so you can give them a shot next year. Whichever events you choose, we hope your holiday season is full of great food, entertainment, and networking!
